Most Anticipated Releases of 2017

As some of you may know, I haven’t posted anything or read a book in over three months. Yes you heard me right, three months. The struggles of university have come screaming towards me, all guns blazing; my course has meant that I spend all day everyday reading and so when I get a chance to relax, I can’t bear to look at another page.

However, rather than dwelling on it, I’m going to move swiftly onwards and kick off the end of 2016 with my most anticipated releases of 2017!

Title: A Court of Wings and Ruin (ACOTAR #3)

Author: Sarah J. Maas

Release Date: May 2nd 2017

Pre-order: Amazon

“Feyre has returned to the Spring Court, determined to gather information on Tamlin’s manoeuvrings and the invading king threatening to bring Prythian to its knees. But to do so she must play a deadly game of deceit-and one slip may spell doom not only for Feyre, but for her world as well.

As war bears down upon them all, Feyre must decide who to trust amongst the dazzling and lethal High Lords-and hunt for allies in unexpected places.”

Of course, the only way to start this post is with the book I think almost all of us are looking forward to, and that is A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas. Is this a trilogy still or have they extended it to a series? I’m so confused. Anyway, I know people aren’t happy about the ACOTAR series because of lack of diversity but that doesn’t stop me from loving the books and being excited for the next release!

caraval

Title: Caraval

Author: Stephanie Garber

Release Date:  January 31st 2017

Pre-order: Amazon

“Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval, the far-away, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, are over.

But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.

Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. But she nevertheless becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic with the other players in the game. And whether Caraval is real or not, she must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over, a dangerous domino effect of consequences is set off, and her sister disappears forever.”

This story seems dark and whimsical and everything I love in a book, which is why I am so excited for its release!

flame

Title: Flame in the Mist

Author: Renee Ahdieh

Release Date: May 2nd 2017

Pre-order: Amazon

“The daughter of a prominent samurai, Mariko has long known her place—she may be an accomplished alchemist, whose cunning rivals that of her brother Kenshin, but because she is not a boy, her future has always been out of her hands. At just seventeen years old, Mariko is promised to Minamoto Raiden, the son of the emperor’s favorite consort—a political marriage that will elevate her family’s standing. But en route to the imperial city of Inako, Mariko narrowly escapes a bloody ambush by a dangerous gang of bandits known as the Black Clan, who she learns has been hired to kill her before she reaches the palace.

Dressed as a peasant boy, Mariko sets out to infiltrate the ranks of the Black Clan, determined to track down the person responsible for the target on her back. But she’s quickly captured and taken to the Black Clan’s secret hideout, where she meets their leader, the rebel ronin Takeda Ranmaru, and his second-in-command, his best friend Okami. Still believing her to be a boy, Ranmaru and Okami eventually warm to Mariko, impressed by her intellect and ingenuity. As Mariko gets closer to the Black Clan, she uncovers a dark history of secrets, of betrayal and murder, which will force her to question everything she’s ever known.”

Renee Ahdieh is the author of one of my favourite reads of 2016, The Wrath and the Dawn (I still haven’t read The Rose and the Dagger, I’m getting there though). This story sounds so packed full of action I cannot wait until it arrives on my doorstep.

Title: Wintersong

Author: S. Jae-Jones

Release Date: February 7th 2017

Pre-order: Amazon

Beware the goblin men and the wares they sell.

All her life, nineteen-year-old Liesl has heard tales of the beautiful, mysterious Goblin King. He is the Lord of Mischief, the Ruler Underground, and the muse around which her music is composed. Yet, as Liesl helps shoulder the burden of running her family’s inn, her dreams of composition and childish fancies about the Goblin King must be set aside in favor of more practical concerns.

But when her sister Käthe is taken by the goblins, Liesl journeys to their realm to rescue her sister and return her to the world above. The Goblin King agrees to let Käthe go—for a price. The life of a maiden must be given to the land, in accordance with the old laws. A life for a life, he says. Without sacrifice, nothing good can grow. Without death, there can be no rebirth. In exchange for her sister’s freedom, Liesl offers her hand in marriage to the Goblin King. He accepts.

Down in the Underground, Liesl discovers that the Goblin King still inspires her—musically, physically, emotionally. Yet even as her talent blossoms, Liesl’s life is slowly fading away, the price she paid for becoming the Goblin King’s bride. As the two of them grow closer, they must learn just what it is they are each willing to sacrifice: her life, her music, or the end of the world.”

I have never read a single book that contains goblins which is why this book struck me with so much intrigue. I’m glad I don’t have to wait for too long to get my hands on this because I’m growing more and more curious about how this story will pan out.

king's cage.jpg Title: King’s Cage (Red Queen #3)

Author: Victoria Aveyard

Release Date: February 7th 2017

Pre-order: Amazon

“Mare Barrow is a prisoner, powerless without her lightning, tormented by her lethal mistakes. She lives at the mercy of a boy she once loved, a boy made of lies and betrayal. Now a king, Maven Calore continues weaving his dead mother’s web in an attempt to maintain control over his country—and his prisoner.

As Mare bears the weight of Silent Stone in the palace, her once-ragtag band of newbloods and Reds continue organizing, training, and expanding. They prepare for war, no longer able to linger in the shadows. And Cal, the exiled prince with his own claim on Mare’s heart, will stop at nothing to bring her back.

When blood turns on blood, and ability on ability, there may be no one left to put out the fire—leaving Norta as Mare knows it to burn all the way down.”

I don’t think I can actually contain my excitement for this release. The first two books in this series (Red Queen and Glass Sword) were absolutely spectacular and I have no doubts that the third book will be just as good. Can we take a moment to admire everything about this cover???? I’m about to burst with excitement.

There are so many books being released this year that I am so excited for, it was incredibly difficult to narrow those down to 5! Thinking about it, I might do a second part.. maybe…

Let me know which books you’re anticipating for the coming year!
